Soft static sculptures

Soft sculptures that make a static noise when you stand near it, and the noise gets gradually smoother when you hug it.

Software:

• sound file
• Arduino code, in C++
• create noise in sound and play it when person is near
• decrease noise in sound and play smooth tone when pressure is applied to sensor
  • the more force the smoother the sound
• alternative to code: physically loosen speaker connection so sound quality decreases?

Hardware:

• force/pressure sensors, possibly:
  • FSR
  • temperature sensor
  • strain sensor
• distance sensor:
  • ultrasonic sensor
• speaker

Materials:

• big soft stuffed plush

Notes:

• how to make it more apparent that users need to reach out to touch/hug it
• how sensitive are sensors/where should sensors be placed
• making a sensor out of soft material
• not sure if arduino can distort sound
